• Question: Were you interested in engineering and maths even when you were at primary/secondary school?

      I don’t think I knew much about “engineering” when I was in school. Definitely not in primary school. It’s one of those things that isn’t really covered by a single subject. I was interested in the sciences and also Technology in that I wanted to know how things worked. Maths, I was good at it but I wouldn’t say I was interested in it.

      I was most interested in music when I was at secondary school as I enjoyed playing the flute in a concert band. In fact, I did once find that my interests were so varied that I had a three way clash by doing my Chemistry and Maths AS modules at the same time as the French exchange trip which was scheduled at the same time as the musical I was in. So unfortunately I missed out on the French trip.
      I guess I only really got interested in engineering when I started looking at what degree I could do at university.

      Hello meganl56,

      I was interested in both subjects when i was at school, probably maths a little more? We had a class called ‘Design & Technology’ when i was at school which i enjoyed very much – I was probably destined to become an engineer!

      I was more interested in science and physics in general, I was always asking questions and I used to enjoy building things and always wanted to know how things worked and I still do sometimes!

      I loved Maths at primary school (no idea what happened!) but wasn’t a fan at university!
