I work on infrastructure for transport including railways, roads and even the London cable car. So I would like my engineering to contribute to a safer and sustainable environment for all. I think I have done this by providing engineering to support an expanded ticket hall for a London Underground Station creating a safer environment and worked on the variable message signs which help regulate traffic to reduce journey times on roads which in turn will help reduce accidents.

      Hello mylo9,

In the aviation profession, it is important that we keep doing our job well and importantly – Safely. We carry many people every year and fly millions of miles so to ensure that we do it to the best of our ability and to minimise the risk of accidents is top of our list.

Our industry is one that is growing quicker and quicker every year so we have to be at the top of our game to make sure that the aircraft are fit to fly as the schedule gets more and more hectic.

We also fly aid flights to countires in need so it would be important to see this continue to ensure that the people that need help get it as quickly as possible.

We need to keep doing what we’re doing quicker but safely.

Hopefully I would like to see a trend in people buying more hybrid and electric cars. At the moment, they aren’t very popular because people don’t understand the technology very well and also they are very expensive.

Hopefully, as we develop new and exciting hybrid and electric cars, people will become more aware and as the prices reduce, these technologies will be more attractive and through this we can reduce our impact we are having on the environment.

I think I would like to see people better understand what engineering is and what an engineer does. An engineer is not someone who fixes your car or your boiler!

That’s part of the reason why I am taking part in I’m and Engineer – I want to help you all understand that engineers do so many different things. I am also do other things (like some of the other engineers do too) to help spread the word about engineering.

You probably wanted an answer about my job, (the really big achievements of keeping the seas safe for global trade and economic reasons) but I think part of my job as an engineer is about educating people and I hope that makes a difference to society.
