      Hello Meganl056,

What a great question!! When i tell people im an aircraft engineer – their first response is ‘Are you a pilot?’ – The answer is of course No!

I suppose that peoples reactions are based on their interest in the subject – Some people couldn’t care less (probably because im boring them to tears with my stories!) but others are really interested to find out how a plane works. Unless you’re in the aviation industry, you’ve probably got no idea why a plane can launch itself in to the air and stay there for hours on end or why the little winglets on the end of the wings help the fuel effiency by up to 10%?

Any job can seem interesting to other people, i guess its the way that the person explaining it tells the story – I for one believe that the science about how aircraft fly is amazing!!

Have i bored you to tears yet??!!

When I say i’m an Engineer, people are usually surprised (probably a little like Ivanka) because there aren’t very many women engineers (we need more by the way, so if you want to do something a little different it’s a great way to get noticed!)

When I tell them I’m in the Navy, people are even more surprised….. I think people sometimes forget that the armed forces are mostly about people!

Most people don’t believe I get paid for the things I do, “That’s so cool, that’s not really working” is what most people say!
